Information on SLU’s sidelines from SLU’s website

SLU has simple and generous rules on sidelines. The basic rule is that sidelines are allowed. The rules we have come from Swedish law, with a local amendment regarding veterinary surgeons.
Sidelines must be registered if the employee or manager thinks there is a need to assess whether the sideline is appropriate on the basis of the rules set out in our guidelines. The HR department is responsible for the rules on sidelines.

In brief, the rules applying to all employees are as follows:

  • You must not compete with SLU's activities.
  • You must not have a sideline that prevents you from carrying out your work or means your work will suffer.
  • You must not risk SLU's reputation or do anything that may affect the public's trust in SLU.
  • A veterinary surgeon employee at SLU must not carry out or participate in other clinical veterinary activities in the counties of Uppsala, Stockholm or Västmanland.

A sideline is work or an activity an employee carries out alongside his/her employment.
